4.Wenjun Ju vs Tingjie Lei GAME 4

The 2023 FIDE Women's World Championship is a 12-game match between defending champion Ju Wenjun and her Chinese compatriot Lei Tingjie. The match runs July 5-23, with the first 6 games in Ju Wenjun's home city of Shanghai and the rest of the match in Lei Tingjie's Chongqing. The first player to 6.5 points wins the match, while a 6:6 tie will be settled by tiebreaks. The prize fund is €500,000, split 60:40 in favour of the winner, or 55:45 if tiebreaks are needed. The time control is 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment per move from move 1. The tiebreaks start with four 25-minute games, with a 10-second increment from move 1. If still tied, two 5+3 games are played, then, if needed, another two 5+3 games. If still tied, single 3+2 games are played, with alternating colours, until one player wins.

5.GRIND NEVER STOPS!

The Aimchess Rapid, the 4th event on the $2 million 2023 Champions Chess Tour, features three Divisions of 8, 16 and 32 players. Each division is a double-elimination knockout where if you lose one match you drop down to a Losers bracket and can still win the tournament. In the Grand Final if the player from the Winners bracket loses, there's a rematch. The total prize fund is $235,000, with a top prize of $30,000 (150 Tour points) in Division I, $10,000 in Division II (50 points) and $5,000 (20 points) in Division III. The top 3 in Division I and the winner of Division II qualify straight to Division I of the next event on the Tour. The time control for normal games is 15 minutes per player for all moves, with a 3-second increment each move. In Division I and II the Winners bracket matches are played over four games, while in the Losers bracket there are two games. In Division III all matches are over two games except the 4-game Grand Final. A tie in a match is decided by an Armageddon game with no increment, where the players bid for time they are willing to play with. The lowest bidder gets that time and can pick colour, while the opponent gets 15 minutes. Black only needs a draw to win the match. Official website: championschesstour.com

9.Fischer Immune to Poison

Havana 1965 The 4th Capablanca Memorial International Chess Tournament was held in the capital city of Havana in Cuba. Eighteen grandmasters and six masters participated in the round-robin event at the Habana Libre hotel from August 25 to September 26, 1965. It was one of the best-funded tournaments at the time, due to Ché Guevara's patronage. As the director of the Cuban National Bank and Minister of Industry, he guaranteed a $3000 first prize with more than $4500 to be dispersed among the next five finishers. This edition of the memorial gained worldwide significance because it was the first international tournament in which Bobby Fischer would be participating since the Curacao Candidates (1962), more than three years before. He had agreed to attend for a $3000 appearance fee, but difficulties arose when the US State Department refused him a visa to travel to Cuba. When Fischer suggested playing by telex from the Marshall Chess Club, the organizers agreed although it would end up costing them over $10,000. Although Fischer had been playing regularly in US championships in the intervening three years (and winning them all), this tournament would mark the first time Fischer would be facing a number of the strongest Soviet grandmasters since his accusations against them for conspiring to keep him from winning the Candidates Tournament to challenge Botvinnik in 1963. Fischer's main Soviet rivals at this event were former world champion Vasily Smyslov, Efim Geller and Ratmir Kholmov. Borislav Ivkov led for most of the tournament, but suffered a tragic collapse at the end. In the penultimate round, with a won game against the tailender Garcia, he blundered and had to resign. In the last round, with White against Robatsch, he played for a win, but lost again. This enabled Smyslov to finish first by one-half point, despite losing to Fischer in their individual game. Fischer shared second place with Geller and Ivkov. Kholmov joined the top finishers in fifth place.

Havana (1965) The 4th Capablanca Memorial International Chess Tournament was held in the capital city of Havana in Cuba.
